Jobs, Millions Additional Tax Revenue for Lackawanna

10/27/2011

The City of Lackawanna is the only city on all the great lakes that I am aware, has no Lake access for it's citizens, think about that. The Plan of the Bethlehem Waterfront Park, if implemented, would generate jobs, prosperity through out Lackawanna, even W.N.Y. The first mile from the end of Ridge Road, into Lackawanna will become the Golden Mile, be the economic engine, of many stores, restaurants, for tourist, even a supermarket behind Ridge road. Combine the golden mile, other investments on our main streets, Route Five, and primarily the four major hotels, condos, Splash lagoon, in the Park, could be between 500 million to 700 million private investment poring into Lackawanna, that with a more reasonable non-homestead tax, combination of school and city taxes, at a 47 dollars per thousand assessment, would add millions to the budget. This can be use to lower homestead taxes, improve the infrastructural, roads, sidewalks throughout Lackawanna, and keep our police and fire services at current levels, even increase them some, build a new City Hall. A win, win for all.

I want to thank everyone, who been reading my articles in the Front Page Newspaper the last few months. The choice is yours, I have offered a true vision, plan for tomorrow, if implemented, will bring our city back from the brink. I ask that you consider carefully the candidates for Mayor of Lackawanna, especially to look for vision, a plan that will generate tax revenue, to get our city back on it's feet.

Your vote is very valuable, it's the difference between thoughts, dreams, hope, become reality. If your vote is squandered, given to a candidate that has no real vision, then our city loses.

In your hand you have the power, authority in your vote, use it wisely to begin the first step in the process to make it know to the state, federal government, that our city, waterfront demands warranted attention, to begin to tear down the fences along route five, to send construction workers, bulldozers, semi trucks, heavy equipment to work, cleaning up the contaminates, the construction of a world renown park, buildings, hotels, roadways, a large harbor, infrastructure. This is the power of Democracy in your hand, your vote. I ask for your vote please. To take the ballot and look carefully for the write in vote section for Mayor, to full in the circle/bubble and sign my name John J. Nowak. Again thank you for reading my articles. God Bless

John J. Nowak

Awake from the Dark Age Mentality Plaguing Lackawanna
10-24-2011

I recently walked around the City of Buffalo, and notice the incredible strides they are making, the redevelopment of old blighted business sections. The waterfront development is increasing the pace in downtown Buffalo.

Where is Lackawanna's development? Answer, stuck in the dark age mentality plaguing our city, heavy industry on our waterfront, all we have to show for it, years of no lake access, an empty main street, blight. Fact not one other candidate for mayor came out to say they are for the waterfront clean up, in my opinion this automatically shows their lack of vision, lack of leadership. They are more worried about winning a notoriety contest.

To win with notoriety alone, without vision is dangerous for Lackawanna, that’s what we have currently in my opponents. In all due respect, they are some of the nicest gentle men in our city, but neither one has shown vision, championed, even hinted to cleaning up the waterfront. Today, others are on the course of cleaning up their waterfront and making it a joy for their citizens, reminders are in the news. We are heading the complete opposite direction, towards more heavy industry, soon our rainy day fund will be exhausted. Our elected leaders scared away businesses, with heavy handed taxes, 68 dollars per 1,000 assessment, 18 dollars more then Orchard Park. The city took away courtesy split, resulting in some resident houses doubled in taxes.

Lately the Buffalo Bills possible new stadium been in the news. I tried to reach out to them two weeks ago with my concept design of a Bethlehem Waterfront Park, to view Lackawanna's waterfront as their new home, to build a dome stadium. I also reached out to Splash lagoon. I reached out to politicians Collins, Poloncarz, and Higgins, that they may start thinking of Lackawanna's waterfront future.

If your a Lackawanna citizen decided to vote for a candidate that has no vision, to win a notoriety contest, then go ahead and vote for one of my opponents. However if you awake out of the dark age mentality plaguing our city, into the light and decide to vote for whats best for our city to achieve it's greatest potential, then you have really only one choice. My name is John J. Nowak write in candidate.

A victor of a notoriety contest, without vision, is going to get us ship wreck. Remember that on election day, when my opponent's staff will greet you, ask for your vote. I hope you have the mental grit, determination can say the words to yourself NO! I will vote for a candidate that has vision. That will aim our city towards it's greatest potential. That is truly determined to a waterfront cleanup. I will fill in the circle and write John J. Nowak.

American Worker Manufacturing Act- Front Page newspaper wouldn't publish this Article, which I understand to some degree, it's about a national issue, solution, likely the reason. If they allowed me to speak on a national issue then they have to for any other candidates.

By John Jerome Nowak

John Nowak write in candidate for Mayor of the City of Lackawanna. When I campaigned, a lady came outside to me, told me she
lost her job. She seemed bewildered, greatly worried. I tried some to tell her of my proposed waterfront cleanup development, that will generate many jobs. I tried to console her some. While I walked to the next house, I said a silent prayer for her plight. When I first announced to run for mayor, I also announced on the internet in an article my hope someday to be a (viable) candidate for the 45th President of the United States of America. Even if the likelihood is incredible remote, I find the jobs shortage in our city, across the nation, one major factor is linked to a current national policy. My proposed new national policy solution, jobs plan, is called the 'American Worker Manufacturing Act'.

The Act when enacted would compel in 18 months, all U.S. citizen owned private and public own manufacturing companies to have at least ten percent of their manufacturing in the U. S. Every succeeding year, must increase their manufacturing in the states by two percent, for the following five years. After that time, a one year period, to monitor how the companies are coping. Will then be decided, if to increase another four years, two percent each consecutive year, another one year interval monitoring period after the first two years. Will Result in 12 1/2 years total, all American companies, will have at least 28 percent their manufacturing in the U.S. The remaining percentage would be decided by companines to manufacture in other countries to be competitive in a global market.

The 'American Worker Manufacturing Act' would be a prudent measure for our national defense, in case of an unaware natural or man made world event, events that may disrupt the world markets. This will safe guard we have a sufficient manufacturing base, to retool, stop potential life threatening shortages. The manufacturing wages are of greater value, produces many types of supportive jobs. The Act would increase the middle class, needed to sustain the nation's well being and primary social services. The timing and amount of compelled manufacturing in the U.S. must be carefully maintained, sufficient moderation so companies to cope, and not increase even the slightest, or else the companies, our nation's, the global market lively hood is at sake.

Any company that is sold to a non citizen, must continue this percentage for up to forty years, to be permitted to sell their products in the U.S.A. All new U. S. citizen owned companies must also have the same compelled manufacturing in the United States, within 12 months must start at no less then eight percent (slightly lower to help in starting a new business incentive and overcome market global competition) and continue on the same schedule as established companies. All U.S. citizen owned companies, that currently have more them 28 percent of their manufacturing in the U. S., would be forbidden to go lower then 28 percent. Nowak concluded.

The City Cannot Pick On a Few, Ignore Their Plight

11-10-2011

I welcome Mr. Watkins back to the race. So citizens are aware, I started a write in campaign two weeks ago, also in 1995 ran a write in campaign as a candidate for mayor. I had hoped someday in the future I may run again for mayor, that citizens of Lackawanna will realized the waterfront cleanup, is our greatest potential to bring our city back to life. That there is an untapped economic life from our waterfront, diversification into the hospitality sector, our city can rise again, higher then ever has in the past. Nowak said.

Today after years of lost time, our city is in dire straights. Our main street in half of our city is full of empty store fronts, more empty store fronts are popping up in the rest of our city, even professionals are fleeing, causing our tax revenue to trickle away. I have uncovered in my walking door to door, something that disgust me, should disgust every Lackawanna citizen, that wants to see their city succeed and shine. I learned the tax assessment called courtesy split, had been eliminated during the current mayor's administration, that applied to a few number of residential attached business structures. Imagine you opened up your mailing, and another $46.00 per thousand of tax burden, been added to your residential house? Some citizens would have a heart attack, fall over dead. Another business owner Paul Olszowy informed me, soon after was quoted by Frank Krakowski in the Mayors office a certain tax amount, he began to build in 2005 in Lackawanna, later found wasn't even close his tax burden quoted. Imagine, you would be pulling out your hair, why did I ever invest in Lackawanna? He began to pull back on his dream project in Lackawanna. This is where the courtesy split would of helped, to even get close to what was quoted. If I became mayor this has to be address speedily.

I will ask for a four percent cut across the board of all city employee's salaries, in the next year's budget, especially while our citizens are experiencing troubling economic times. I will not only cut my salary by four percent, I will cut another four percent, and put it towards the tearing down of abandon houses in the first ward. I will cut additional waste where ever it may be hiding, lower business taxes, sell a waterfront clean up development to the outside world. All these actions will attract businesses to our main streets. The few residents who had their courtesy split removed, their money must be returned, and apologized to, by the new mayor whom ever. Going forward from 2012-13 at most a $200.00 dollar fee per year, for the additional cost of processing a courtesy split. The city cannot pick on a few, ignore their plight. All groups and people's interest must be protected, from the least to the greatest, rich or poor. Favoritism cannot be shown in city politics. Nowak concluded.

Botanical Gardens South Park Is In A Very Sad State of Affairs
5/3/2011

The lost control of the Botanical Gardens South Park, is a low point of Lackawanna's history. Not only have we lost a gem, they eliminated our car ramp access. The car ramp access has been made into a walk path, the other car ramp access at the end of Electric street, has been totally removed. Nowak Said.

If I was to become mayor of Lackawanna, one of my priorities is to immediate seek to reopen, rebuild both car ramp accesses to the park. I would also seek the golf house car ramp access road, to be opened for South Buffalo residents. I would seek to closed Hopkins St., a heavy used industrial street, has junk car lots. In my opinion was the only car access road that should of been closed. Nowak said

Along the road in the park, I would suggest the removal of the many rotting wooden post, that surrounds the golf course. I would replace them with natural rock boulders. I would suggest to plant about 250 evergreen trees on the back side of the park, to reduce noise from the trains. I would seek the county and state to totally replace the crumbling road and at the back side of the park to build a new bridge out of ascetically pleasing rock. Currently the bridge has been rigged, a marvel of almost total abandonment and some large pieces of the bridge are as if flung to the side. I would increase the lawn area all the way to the back of all houses, and plant evergreen trees for some buffer. I would make better use of the forest areas, create nature paths through the forest. I would clean the three Islands in the lake, and build boardwalks to each Island. My hope is someday Lackawanna would be in much better financial shape, where taxes are lower all around, would be able to take back the control of Botanical Gardens South Park.

Concerning convenience stores, I would enforce the law, or if there is no current law, initiate a law to have all convenient stores, and any store that sells candy, pop, groceries to have for their customers, litter disposable units, in front of the their stores. Nowak Said

Concerning non-profits, I would conduct a study of neighboring towns and cites, and compare the amount of non-profits, to make sure the city is not overly burdened our tax payers. Nowak said.

In the first ward, I notice in my campaign, abandon houses, left to fall down, next to carefully cared for houses. A lady walked me to her daughter’s 200,000 dollar house recently built, and showed me the tall grass across the street on the city property. Imagine houses falling down in the forth or third ward, the outcry. We need to deal with abandoned houses and tall grass on city property, much faster. Nowak said.

Nowak seeks to be write in candidate for Mayoral election
9/28/2011

John Nowak recently issued statement to the front page:

"I have decided to run for mayor  as a write in candidate. I believe the city needs someone who is passionate to see their city shine, that loves the people and the city.

"If I become mayor, that first thing I will change is alternate parking. I will seek to have new signs made. perhaps to clip easily over the original signs, to be effect for the spring, summer and fall months.

"The signs may read 'No Parking this side March 7-July 15,' then below that' Other side July 16-Oct.7' There will be number of benefits to this, some being that each side of the street will be equally free of parked cars at certain times.

"Second, I will seek that Martin Rd. will have it's sidewalks cleaned by the city. I would put it to bid to private contractors. I would then determine which would be more economical by comparing city workers to private company. Martin Road has a number of schools our senior citizens community center. The safety of our city's children and seniors must be top priority.

"I would like to carry this policy of snow removal on sidewalks to the main street sections in the future, if and when funds are available, without raising taxes.

"I hope to spur economic growth with our waterfront redevelopment, so new tax revenues and funds would be available.

"due my background in lawn care and landscaping since 1984 in Lackawanna, I would seek 'street scape' our main streets and especially all the entrances to our city. I notice areas of the city where the grass and even shrub trees have been left to grow, and are higher then me.

" I will look for ways to stop blight; even simple things like garbage cans left on front porches will be quickly remedied.

" This is only a small list, and my effort will focus as a laser beam upon the details that matter.' concluded Nowak.

A Greater Dream Our Waterfront Cleaned Up

9/20/2011

We all have a dream. A dream of the first African American Mayor of Lackawanna, or the dream of a council member to become mayor. I wonder can so many people lay down their great dream, sacrifice for a greater dream our waterfront cleaned up, make Lackawanna truly a much better place, to prosper? To bring new businesses throughout the city, especially all along ridge road, for especially the young, jobs to uplift and inspiration at any time a close walk to our own shore, our wide expanse of blue water, our cascading sunshine reflecting upon our waves, our shoreline's healing gentle sounds, to dream, to rise, overcome life's trials and tribulations.

Before the primary election, I delivered a flyer to many citizen’s home, reported I had reach out to about 70 percent of the businesses, that I can't recall one of them who said they wouldn't want the waterfront cleaned up. Also that one of the largest employers of the city, said the words about the waterfront cleanup “just do it”. When heard I immediately thought with compassion towards all groups, people.

The election, I received 35 percent of the Republican vote, without support from a party, had no head quarters, no staff, just me alone. A party not known as much for an environmental concern. Without much of a finale push on election day to get people out to vote for me. I think 35 percent of republicans voted for waterfront cleanup is rather well. Thank you republicans who came out to vote for the waterfront clean up. I think there are many democrats that have in their hearts, a deep desire for our city's waterfront to be cleaned up.

I'm afraid Lackawanna's waterfront to be cleanup, may be it's last chance. The future for Lackawanna's waterfront will be to much set in stone, lost opportunity, will remain the city's image of dirty industry to outsiders forever. When we could of change course, became a bright shinning star, an image of true renewal, waterfront reclamation for the people, resulting in our city revitalized. Even perhaps in our grasp attaining the height of a National Park. I remember, walking house to house in each ward, the words said of themselves “I will be dead before they finish”. Contrary, came across our very elderly, who lived in Lackawanna all their long lives, some in their 90's, and even the ill, that wanted the waterfront cleaned up. Thinking the best for others. Reminded me of Martin Luther King, American solders on the battle fields, Abraham Lincoln who saw a people in chains, seeing the people to their freedom, Moses, and Abraham of the old testament, all hoped against hopelessness, many saw the promise land far off, some never reached, all had sacrifice, all for the betterment of others.

I congratulate all the candidates who won. I decided being this may be the last chance, the waterfront to be cleaned up, I will consider running as a write in candidate against unimaginable odds. I will decide in the coming weeks.

No. 1
Stop Blight, Drugs, Crime in Their Tracks

9-7-2011
I have reached out to about 70 percent of the busniness owners, a fair representation of our city.  I'm not aware of one of them who wouldn't want the water front cleaned up. Some were concerned how fast, the lenght of time. One of the largest busniness owners, said the words "Just Do It" The Republican primary September 13, 2011 will decide the fate of our City's true renewal. I John J Nowak, a life time resident, a Republican since 1983, propose we clean up our waterfront. My vision is to attract 50 to 100 new quaint businesses to our main streets, attract more hotels on route five, bring additional interest to our housing, support clean manufacturing parks away from the immediate waterfront. All together will add tax revenue and jobs, to stop blight, drugs, crime in their tracks, this will lower government expense, will lower the non-homestead tax desperately needed,  stop homestead tax in it's tracks slowly rising, I will aim towards it's reverse.
If you elect me mayor to clean up the waterfront, will be as if a large sign to attract the attention of outsiders to invest in our city, letting it known we ask, expect our waterfront to be cleaned up, in a timely fashion, paramount to Lackawanna's, WNY's recovery, renewal. I will continue to draw from our own citizen's knowledge/expertise. With the sign/mandate to the outside world, seek outside funds, grants, contributions from the state, federal, non-profit groups, environmental groups, individuals. Work with other elected leaders, environmental groups, designers, U.S. army corps engineers, artist and draw up plans for our waterfront transformation, into a waterfront marvel. I implore you, we sit between Hamburg and Buffalo, our waterfront jets out into lake Erie as a crown jewel, waiting to be appreciated, reclaimed, transformed to a northern paradise, join to the two bands on each side, for our waterfront to shine brightest, will be seen around the world, hopefully as the National Bethlehem Waterfront Park.
Lake Erie water is the warmest of all the great lakes for swimming, our waterfront faces awe inspiring sunsets. We have a scuba shop, boat shop, a new three story hotel (so you know, I submitted it as a five story high hotel, to the Front Page, I forgot to verify) on route five. Imagine we decide to clean up our waterfront, the effect. Go to Woodlawn beach, and see the wide sandy beach, that can stretch all the way into Lackawanna. The greatest natural youthful hope plan for the children of Lackawanna. Families of Western New York to visit Lackawanna's robust quaint business section.
We must maximize the waterfront space, most reward, most jobs, most economic benefit spread across our city, WNY. The excessive number of wind mills, halts the waterfront transformation especially for our own beach, a large inner harbor, a wide higher plateau for an amphitheater/360 degree view of Western New York and Canada, the historical office building into a steel museum, tourist viewing of the sea bird nursery, light house, green and art scape, and other additions, combined with a national recognition, will draw millions in tourist yearly to Lackawanna.
I need every vote, in the Republican primary, to help encourage in the general election Democrats, Independents, Conservatives,  to vote for our waterfront cleanup.  I will be a family oriented mayor.

I'm Not Wasting My Time to See Lackawanna Great

8-29-2011
Lackawanna needs to show a sign to all of New York, we care, we ask and seek our waterfront to be cleaned up, that it's in our thoughts, on the tip of our tongue, in our hearts. Only then our waterfront will be cleaned. Nowak stressed.

Lackawanna has many clans, many longtime relationships, many family ties, and that is great. However in politics, many times it is not great. In politics, many times it stops growth, hope, people in their tracks from dreaming. It is the mentality, “what can you do for me” in clans, individual selfishness harms Lackawanna.

Lackawanna needs men and woman in their clans to break free, and follow a new course, not for the benefit of the clan but the benefit of Lackawanna as a whole. Nowak said

I am the only candidate that put his sight on the wide big picture, clean up the waterfront. I see in many people 's eyes, in their words, this is what they want. It simply comes down to a vote, enough votes, you can see dreams, hopes come true. Not to say there aren’t some like a citizen's remark “Your wasting your time”. After some reflection for a day. In all due respect, I'm not wasting my time to see Lackawanna great. I'm not wasting my time to finally have Lake Erie access for the people, businesses prosper, more outsiders interesting in the housing, to see outsiders honor Lackawanna. If only the people would forgo clan politics. Nowak said.

When with your love ones, can stroll, bike, or drive through our business sections, full of quaint shops, restaurants to coffee shops, some galleries, a charmed atmosphere. You enter the National Bethlehem Waterfront Park, to enjoy sections of a well manicured creative green space, full of trees, especially evergreen tees and rock formations brought down from the mountains, an art section. Opens up to our own large harbor full of boats, sail boats with their tall masts. Beyond, you will see and reach a higher wide ground plateau, an amphitheater for concerts and speakers, 360 degree scenic views for miles and miles of western New York, shores and ports in Canada. South west, looking slightly downward you will see our wide sanding beach full of people, gentling curving for two miles into hamburg. The northeast looking, south buffalo's little rugged light house built in 1904, maned until 1933, a beach beside it, a sea bird nursery, seabirds are suspended in the sky, may be the thickness concentration in western NY, for bird watchers and photographers from around the world. Looking back into the park, over the boat harbor, a well deserved museum for the steel workers in the restored Bethlehem office building, shared with the Department of environment conservation, and park's administration. Sharing our wonderful, crown jewel, northern paradise with busloads, Rvs, cars full of tourist. Concluded Nowak

Lackawanna's Waterfront Contribution to Freedom
8/20/2011

Waterfront Cleanup, is the hope of my campaign. “Cleanup the waterfront, you will cleanup the city”, is the slogan. Stress Nowak

When attended St. Barbara’s school, sitting in class on the third floor, I saw from the dark mask of buildings on the horizon, a large waffling, bellowing of steam and smoke spreading wider and ever higher, wondered how high it will reach. At another time I remember a view of seemingly bars at the end of ridge road, the windows blown out, the roofs fallen inside, covered in snow, slowly decaying, ignored. A very bleak time of Lackawanna. Nowak recalled growing up.

Today some new and old buildings at the end of ridge road are empty, and empty fields, are as waiting for the first sign, Lackawanna citizens will go all the way, complete the mission, clean up all their waterfront. Are ready to become stores, restaurants, shops, places of rest to become Lackawanna's shinning example of renewal. Nowak said

I hope fellow Lackawanna citizens are ready for the second half of a journey, to reclaim, cleanup their waterfront. We will not fall short, we will rise to the occasion. Even if having faith as small as a mustard seed, to grow into a northern paradise. Nowak stressed.

The burden is not ours alone, is also the burden of the surrounding communities, that all have greatly enrich themselves through our waterfront. Our waterfront calls out to them for a lending hand. In World War II, Lackawanna's waterfront produce the most steel in the war, employed over 20,000 people. Without the contribution of Lackawanna's waterfront, to tip the scales in the Allies favor, we could of lost the war, freedom taken away. Nowak said

The pollution that’s lies buried, beneath the still scared land on our waterfront, is bored upon the shoulders of Lackawanna's citizens, their contribution to see freedom's ring in other nations. Lackawanna 's waterfront ask the nation, the world, please help to replenished the land into a northern paradise, a well deserved return for our waterfront's contribution of freedom in many lives, around the world. Nowak concluded.

Lackawanna Needs a Charmed Atmosphere

8-13-2011

“The Lackawanna's mayor debate invitation was seemingly sent to my old address. I wanted to attend, even with some trepidation, I never spoke in front of more then just a few people.” Nowak said

“Ellicottville and East Aurora are two communities have uniqueness. One has the Holiday Valley ski resort, the other the Roycroft Inn, a historical reminder of the beginning of America's arts and crafts period, that draws people, and gives a charmed atmosphere to the village and community. This is what is lacking in Lackawanna, a charmed atmosphere. Especially to outsiders, to draw them to live and open businesses in Lackawanna. When all the time Lackawanna possess a greater uniqueness then Ellicottville and East Aurora put together, where other cities would die for our uniqueness, our vast unoccupied waterfront. They would clean it up so fast would make your head spin, to bring out it's beauty , and make it shine.” Nowak said.

“Lackawanna's route five is starting to show life, along side of buffalo’s renewal on their waterfront. Further inland, a hot dog stand on ridge road, is an inspiration of creativity, cleanliness, and investment, a prelude of more robust businesses tomorrow, if we would only begin on the course to reclaim, clean up our waterfront. If we dare to reach even higher for the National Bethlehem Waterfront Park, many establishments around western New York and far away would begin to trip over themselves, to enter Lackawanna. I ask you to set in your mind and heart, on the course, the big picture Lackawanna truly needs, to bring businesses, interest to all of Lackawanna. To make a charmed atmosphere, for outsiders to come visit, raise families, to dare to dream, to open stores, enjoy the greatest lake access, a crown jewel of western N.Y., a two mile wide pristine sand beach, with it's gentle sand bottom gradient far out in the water, and it's safe harbor in the ship canals for many pleasure boats, hundreds of acres of treed green space, boat ramps, bike paths, concerts, museums, Rv rental overnight areas, festivals, arts and craft shows, tourist from Niagara falls. Jobs, economic life, revenue in taxes, will flow to Lackawanna lifting the city and citizens up, and especially lower taxes for our current businesses. Thousands of communities have accomplished this with their waterfront through out the world. Imagine, even if we arrived at only half of our expectations, with numerous stores, it's plazas fulled again, seeing all of Lackawanna beautiful is a victory, but I believed expectations will be exceeded, and you will see such a great renewal to Lackawanna, that you will be awestruck. A National Park but run by Hamburg and Lackawanna residents. Nowak said.

Lackawanna's pulse, will be micro-burst of creativity in modest businesses through out the city, beating stronger and stronger into a lively robust community.” Nowak concluded.

Lackawanna's New Course

7-21-2011
Meeting fellow republicans was a pleasant experience in my petition drive for Mayor. Especially to see excitement in many faces when told them my proposal, a National Park on Lackawanna's waterfront. I showed a video of my Peace Horizons Bridge design to replace the Peace Bridge on my smart phone, that was in the Buffalo News picture page 7/16/2011 to work hand in hand with the Park. Hopefully to draw tens of thousands of tourist from Niagara Falls. Said John Nowak whose name will be on the Republican ballot in the primary.

Lackawanna's future is upon us, in this most important election in Lackawanna's history. Those who have their jobs connected to the past and political party patronage, will perhaps try to convince voters to remain as we are, means an increasing blighted city, roads crumbling, a city hall that looks like a barn on stilts, the houses become vacant, illegal drugs, ever increased crime creeps from street to street, house value decline, where even the elderly citizens in senior housing, are neglected, heard from a fellow republican. Said Nowak

Lackawanna's time for renewal is here, to make a stand, to reach for the stars, to pull together and make a new course of action. Our waterfront sits between buffalo and hamburg, and we are the only ones still stuck in the past, trying to industrialize the largest expanse of land, that if cleaned up, properly cared and attended, will be the crown jewel of western New York, a post card northern paradise.

The plan is to take on our worst fears, as a great challenge, that through grit and determination to clean up the pollution. I recently been to DEC, and looked over the study of the property. I found the main concentration of pollution, is in about a 50 acre section. The good news, the pollution is relatively shallow, about 40 feet on average, easy access. About 60 feet down from the surface, is bedrock, clay, a natural pool liner, one may say, which has kept the pollution from leaching further down, to the best available information. This means that the pollution can be totally removed relatively easy, in my opinion. So wood lawn beach can be extended besides over a quarter of a mile, which is hamburg already clean land and also a half a mile into Lackawanna. The master plan is the two existing streams that enter into wood lawn bay, and even smokes creek to redirect them further down past the the new extended beach. Then the large beautiful bay, almost two mile wide sandy beach, won't closed due to storm run off. It will be a sight to behold, to look from the higher elevation from Lackawanna down a two mile gently curved wide sandy beach packed with tourist.

The park when done by itself with no other profound recognition, will draw tens of thousands of people daily. Then add a profound recognition to the park, you will have perhaps as many as a hundred thousand or more people coming daily to visit. Nowak said

The way you treat the waterfront, you will be treated. If you continue to neglect the waterfront you will be neglected by those you elect, it's as simple as that, and don't kid yourself it's not. They in City Hall will know you won't expect much, so they won't give you much. Right at this moment they are closing off the over quarter mile of the old Bethlehem slag quarry site which is hamburg already clean land, last frontage of the waterfront with more wind mills, where wood lawn beach could be extended, where also extended a half of mile into Lackawanna. This is a travesty, it's as if we are allowing the last possible hope, inspiration for our city, the chance for our city to shine to be close off forever. Nowak said.

We have the potential of reclaiming our waterfront for the people, the potential of 50,000 to 100,000 thousand people coming daily, Lackawanna citizens having for once lake Erie access in a two mile beach, and harbors. This means jobs, honor for our city, our main streets bustling with stores, restaurants, house values and their care increased, hope for our children, joy in their eyes.

Both republicans, democrats, all parties need to unite, and make an abrupt change of course, save our precious waterfront, she is so worth saving and begin the true renewal of Lackawanna. Nowak said.

Front of Orchard Park City Hall

Back Side of Orchard Park City Hall

“A new city hall needs to be built, like Orchard Park's City Hall, or even finer.” Said John Nowak running for mayor for the city of Lackawanna. Mr. Nowak continued “My first proposal, with combine funding by a donation drive, I already open a fund at the bank for a donation drive (I spoke to one business owner, and is willing to display a donation box in his business) and some federal assistance, and perhaps other sources, the city to purchase the lots behind the old city hall. Hopefully the owners will reluctantly but understandably have it in their hearts, will part with their beloved property for the betterment of the community, giving them a sufficient price for the land. With the added land, with combined funds, professionals and volunteerism build a beautiful designed reddish brick City Hall, with perhaps a center large glass round lobby or lobbies, large windows multiple pane with a round top designed, facing both Ridge Road and the park.

Mr. Nowak continued. “The new city hall facing the park, consisting of finely manicured terrace land scape sections each corner of City Hall, with a large brick patio or patios for sitting outside having some coffee, tea, soda on a nice spring, summer, or fall day for the citizens and visitors. A center stairs leading to the doors of City hall, all over looking the park, Botanical Gardens.” Mr. Nowak goes on to say: “The new city hall and it's landscapes, patios, at night be illuminated by indirect soft lighting effects, and in the park with beautiful walkways, some displays, perhaps a water reflecting pool or pools, leading up to the new city hall for a pleasant, warm, atmosphere. The setting will add great appeal to the city and botanical gardens, to invite people and businesses to our city on the lake bringing in revenue and employing our citizens.”

This is my first political ad I submitted March 24 ,2011,
after told I couldn't submit the first person version, after I was told I couldn't submit the even longer version. I tried my best to write it in second person, I’m learning.

John Nowak, has announce his candidacy for mayor of Lackawanna. He said: “He has been a lifetime resident of Lackawanna, self employed, doing business lawn care/landscaping, in Lackawanna since 1984. Continued: He attended McKinley school, OLV, St. Hyacinths, St. Barbara’s, Hoover, and Lackawanna High school. Mr Nowak commented on the city Hall building, “The city hall is so ugly that it needs to be knock down. A new city hall needs to be built, like Orchard Park's City Hall, or even finer.” Mr Nowak said: “I propose the city to purchase the lots behind the old city hall and create a beautiful designed reddish brick City Hall, with large round top, multiple pane windows facing both Ridge Road and the park. Facing the park some finely manicured terrace land scape sections each side of City Hall, with a large patio or patios for sitting outside having some coffee on a nice spring, summer, or fall day and center stairs leading to the doors of City hall, over looking the park, Botanical Gardens. Mr. Nowak goes on to say: “The new city hall and it's landscapes, patios, at night illuminated by indirect soft lighting effects, for a pleasant, atmosphere.” (Update, I shook the hand of the mayor today 3/30/2011 at about 3:00 pm at city hall, and told him I'm running for mayor and my plans, and of beautiful walkways in the park leading up to the new city hall. He seemed to of paused imagining the scene.)

Mr Nowak said: When he ran for third ward council men in 1993 and in 1995 for mayor, he proposal a National Bethlehem Waterfront Park on Lackawnana's water front. Commenting on the waterfront, Mr Nowak said “I am dismayed at no water front access, for Lackawanna citizens. He consider it is a shame for so many years the waterfront lies as a waste land of despair and blight, creeping into homes. Continue commenting , Mr Nowak said, Buffalo got the message, they began their waterfront renewal and now it has reach the city's boundary. Nowak asked: Are we going to let Buffalo beat us to the punch? Mr. Nowak said, “I believe it's time for Lackawanna citizens to stand up, and demand their waterfront to be as nature intended. A northern paradise, a breath of fresh air, where citizens are honored. Where our streets are gold! Mr Nowak continued, well just fine pavement, would be a much needed relief to our cars undercarriages. Lackawanna needs to be a name of honor, spread far and wide, not a byword for despair and gloom.”

Mr. Nowak recalls: “It was around 1993 when he put up a large sign in front of the old Kmart, it read children save our waterfront. To stop the tire burning plant, being built on the waterfront. Commenting, The city needs the children who are older now, to lend a hand in Lackawanna's true renewal. To turn the city and waterfront from the darkest, blackness, to a sparkling city and a full bloom vivid greenery, that fulls citizen’s eyes looking across Lackawanna's waterfront soon, teaming with people from around the world.” Mr Nowak ask, to contact him at email: lackawannarenewal@gmail.com

Finally Mr Nowak said: “I want to see Lackawanna's intended destiny come true.”
